The DNR has established public input mechanisms to incorporate waterfowler perspectives into their decision process such as Wisconsin’s Migratory Game Bird Committee. As the largest organization to represent Wisconsin duck hunter interests, WWA brings an outsized voice to these discussions, informed by extensive member surveys on the questions.
This Committee:
- establishes season structure and dates
- prioritizes distribution of state Waterfowl Stamp funds
- ensuring the DNR pays attention to the interests of state waterfowlers.
- Develops long-term strategies to benefit Wisconsin waterfowl, wetlands and duck hunters.
Cascading plans. Migratory game birds (i.e., waterfowl) are managed continentally by Canada, Mexico and the US. A series of cascading plans provide strategies that guide lower levels, like the Mississippi flyway, which then guides state-level planning.
