Private Lands

Wetland owners willing to improve and invest in their wetlands have a partner in WWA.

WWA works with willing landowners to restore hydrological functions to their impaired wetlands.

WWA ecologists will review the site, work with the landowner to identify project goals, develop a design, and assist with permitting through local, state and federal authorities.

If the project is a good fit for us, we may bring some funding to the project from various grant sources.  We will expect the landowner to have some “skin in the game” and maintain the property after the restoration is complete.

For these private land projects, the landowner must commit that the work will not be undone or adversely impacted by other projects in the next decade.  This commitment does NOT require future public access to the property.

Federal Programs to help private lands.

  • Former Ag land programs: WWA also evaluates private lands that are enrolled in conservation programs with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to help them better perform for wildlife.
  • ‘Partners’ program. WWA also collaborates with the US Fish and Wildlife Service  on their “Partners for Fish and Wildlife” program that provides restoration planning services and possibly some funding for wetland and upland restorations on private land
