Department of Natural Resources, Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC), local schools and other organizations, WWA staff and volunteers collect ripened rice seed in the fall using traditional \u201csoft hand\u201d methods in a poled canoe.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This seed is then sown in areas that, through restoration and management actions, have class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><\/span>Rice is an important food for migrating waterfowl.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><\/span>For over a decade, WWA has collected wild rice for
