GB chapter member Bryan Urben, Board President Bruce Urben, Ben Olson (DNR) & WWA Board member Eric Urben (along with ED Bruce Ross, Jesse Nickel and Jeremy VanSistine) planted 13 apple trees May 11th at Abrams as food plots via a WDNR Grant thru Pittman Robertson funds<\/span><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div>

In 2012, WWA\u2019s Green Bay Chapter wrote a short vision on what the Abrams property<\/a>, a 150+ acre parcel deeded to WWA in the 1990\u2019s by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, could become. This property<\/a> is located along Hwy 41 near the 41\/141 split north of Green Bay in Oconto County. These volunteers envisioned a recreational area with the ability to serve disabled individuals, as well as able-bodied sportsmen and women. Fast forward to 2019, after a number of grants and fundraising events, over 2 miles of disabled accessible trails, 3 disabled accessible duck blinds and 5 disabled accessible deer blinds have been constructed.<\/p>\n

A wildlife scrape, wood duck nesting boxes, water control equipment and a viewing deck have been provided. Two parking areas, wildlife food plots and signage has also been completed to date.<\/p>\n

On paper, the vision has been completed through phase 4. What\u2019s next for the 150+ acre project area just north of Green Bay? There are some ideas, including an educational structure, trail expansion or \u2026 ?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Wisconsin Waterfowl Association would like to gather input from within the local community, and outside, to determine future development ideas and proposed uses for the property.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why we are proposing to develop and establish a \u201cFriends Group\u201d for the Abrams WWA property<\/a>. The proposed vision for the Friends Group would be to help WWA chart a course for the future and assist the organization with management of the Project Area \u2013 Adopting the Abrams Project. We\u2019re looking for a dedicated group of volunteers to begin planning for phase 5 and beyond in development and management of the property. Of course, WWA staff and chapter volunteers will continue to be involved with work groups, funding opportunities, contracting, etc., but local input is being sought to make this next phase in development a community endeavor.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
