By the way, that\u2019s a picture of WWA Ecologist, Mark Pfost, collecting rice using what our GLIFWC (Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Council) partners call \u201cthe soft hand method\u201d (that actually employs 3\u2019 long ricing sticks to knock the rice seeds into the bottom of the canoes). You may not recognize him because he is usually up to his neck in mud, muck or water.\u00a0 Good to see you dry, Mark!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><u>Want to help out ricing next year\u2014email [email]info@wisducks.org[\/email] to get on the list!<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Make sure to check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/wetland-restoration-begins-in-little-yellow-river-watershed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark\u2019s article<\/a> as the lead ecologist in the largest project WWA has done in decades, maybe ever.\u00a0 He\u2019ll be leading the charge on disabling an extensive network of 100-year-old ditches in the Necedah area to restore something close to 2,000 acres.\u00a0 This includes land on which you can hunt on the Meadow Valley State Wildlife Area!<\/p>\n<p>And our Green Bay volunteers are working closely with the US Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/habitat-improvement-work-continues-at-abrams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">improve the waters and woods<\/a> of our 143 acre Abrams property.<\/p>\n<p>Our learn to hunt efforts are in full swing now that the season has started &#8211; our West Bend Chapter had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/midland-wings-chapter-hosts-inaugural-learn-to-hunt-event\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">goose hunt<\/a> and Prairie du Chien got a bunch of youngsters out for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/13th-annual-wwa-craig-martin-legacy-youth-duck-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">duck hunt<\/a>. Impressive work to start the NEXGEN waterfowlers out right.\u00a0\u00a0 Every student or teacher says it\u2019s a great experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><u>We could use more mentors\u2014let me know if you want to play a role.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/shop\/class-a-tickets\/2025-conservation-calendar-class-a-link\/2025-conservation-calendar\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-55741 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/2025_WWA_Conservation_Calendar_Page_01-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a>The best value raffle in the state<sup>1 <\/sup>is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisducks.org\/shop\/class-a-tickets\/2025-conservation-calendar-class-a-link\/2025-conservation-calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">now available<\/a>.\u00a0 Better odds, better prizes than ever before, and a chance to win a prize for every single day of the year.
